Description
On April 15, 1983, a milestone was set in the history of Colombian cycling with the creation of the Equipo Nacional Pilas Varta, which, with honor and courage, accepted for the first time in history an invitation for an amateur team to compete in cycling's greatest race: the Tour de France. This achievement was propelled by the glorious victory of Colombian rider Alfonso Flórez in the Tour de l'Avenir in 1980.
Thirteen warriors on two wheels were proclaimed as the chosen ones for the 1983 campaign, among them some of the most recognized names of the era: Patrocinio Jiménez, Alfonso Flórez, Edgar Corredor, and Abelardo Ríos. Leading this formidable squad were three renowned strategists: Rubén Darío Gómez, Martín Emilio Cochise Rodríguez, and the legendary Spanish champion Luis Ocaña, who would guide these heroes in their campaign across foreign roads.
